When you attend the Napa Valley Film Festival, it might feel as though the whole thing is magically happening. The band knows what to play, the chefs know what to serve, and the theater and event venues are seemingly transformed overnight. This is how we want you to feel. When you see a red carpet, you shouldn’t think about the people who measured, ordered, and installed it. But of course, nothing just happens. Behind every single thing we do, there is the team that made it possible. Take a peek behind the curtain and meet the fearless experts we are honored to call our partners.
The Napa Valley Film Festival (NVFF) is, essentially, a five-day experience featuring multifaceted film programs and special events spanning across the Napa Valley, as the festival takes place in the four towns of Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga all at the same time. The complex and extensive events call for large-format graphics and displays, because what good is a party that no one can find? “The entire ColorZone team loves to gear up in the fall to prepare the hundreds of signs and banners that are displayed each year at the Napa Valley Film Festival,” says owner Josh Feller. Not only do Josh and his team help festival attendees find their way, they also increase our visibility across the valley through signs seen from lively downtown streets and scenic Highway 29 drives.
Our job as festival organizers is to create an environment in which the talented and passionate filmmakers, vintners and chefs can connect with likeminded lifestyle enthusiasts. Our desire to seek and showcase the exceptional all in one place does not end with film, food and wine. It applies to every expert we work with, and ColorZone is no exception. 11 years ago, Josh set out to expand ColorZone’s initiative to provide quality imaging and graphics services to the Napa Valley. Since taking over, Josh has added over $4 million in high-end equipment to the business, including a $1.5 million label press (the first of its kind in the world).
“It’s rewarding to be a part of a quality team that is creating a growing, top-notch event like this. Each year we meet with the operations team and brainstorm what we can do to further enhance the attendee experience. Over the years we’ve come up with some great stuff that has been challenging and fun to create.”
ColorZone may have built a business on quality and customer service, but that’s not the whole story. Many would be both surprised and fascinated to know that ColorZone employs an impressively eco-friendly business plan. “Our advantage is that our press is digital. It’s green—it saves a lot of energy since it uses UV cured inks and LED lights. It die cuts labels using twin 500 watt lasers from Italy,” notes Josh. And they aren’t just saving energy with this fancy equipment. Because ColorZone’s press lacks any die or plate charges, they are able to reduce delivery time and follow through on sharp lead times for the Napa wineries and other artisans they have been serving for almost twenty years. “We’ve had customers come in on a Friday morning needing labels to bottle yogurt that night. They walked out with 10,000 labels in just a few hours.” From large format signage and banners, to auto wraps and labels, Josh and his team have continued to showcase ColorZone’s cutting edge technology with finished products that speak for themselves.
When asked what inspired Josh to be a part of NVFF for not one, but all five (going on six) years, he said, “It’s rewarding to be a part of a quality team that is creating a growing, top-notch event like this. Each year we meet with the operations team and brainstorm what we can do to further enhance the attendee experience. Over the years we’ve come up with some great stuff that has been challenging and fun to create.” Josh and his team love a good challenge and the many venues and events in need of signage at the Napa Valley Film Festival offer them exactly that. Once the job is done, our skilled ColorZone partners get the chance to enjoy their work in action. “The best part is when you walk into an event, see the good work we created together and how it is having such a positive impact. It’s something we look forward to working on every year.”
After attending NVFF each year, Josh’s favorite memory to date was, “…chatting with John Lee Hancock, the director of Saving Mr. Banks at the party after the red carpet screening. I couldn’t believe how approachable and interesting he was.” ColorZone’s graphic services have given the people in our community infinitely more opportunities to create such memories of their own. We look forward with excitement and gratitude to see how ColorZone will continue to take Napa Valley Film Festival to new heights.
