Behind the Vines: Flora Springs

Flora Springs stems from sustainable living and organic farming. Their love for land influences simply everything that they do, including accruing land in Napa Valley’s most bountiful and lustrous appellations: Rutherford, Oakville, St, Helena and Carneros. Flora Springs was one of the first wineries to pick grapes at night, crafting a practice that delivers cool and pure fruit. Every wine Flora Springs produces aims to capture hearts, and express the beauty straight from the soil.

“Love the land and it will love you back.” – Flora Komes

This is more than a motto for Flora Springs wines—it’s breathed into every bottle. Flora had love for all things living, and ensured the land she cared for was an integral part of her heritage and legacy. This sentiment is infused into every bottle of Flora Springs.

There are two ways to experience Flora Springs in Napa Valley, at their Tasting Room or within their Estate Winery. The tasting room is a modern design that embodies naturalistic styles of hillside caves and crushing springs. They have a Vineyard Courtyard picnic area—an amazing area to swirl a glass and nosh on your favorite bites over lunch. Their Rooftop Lounge has a stunning view of vineyards, with colors of amber, rose, eggplant and every color in-between—especially this time of year. They offer four seasonal tasting experiences, each with renowned flights, perfect for savoring.

Their Estate Winery is located on a quaint country lane, nestled within luscious fruit trees and marvelous oaks, with a breathtaking view of Napa Valley. Within the vines are five unique tours and tastings, each experience drenched in wine country ambiance.

Our personal favorite aspect of Flora Springs is their artful and unique wine labels, featuring an array of talented artists. Their recent Halloween Wines or “Hallowines” is a skew of varietals: 2014 All Hallow’s Eve Cabernet Franc, 2014 Ghost Winery Malbec and 2013 Harvest Day Cabernet Sauvignon; each one containing a spooky and spectacular design. Their most recent Holiday Etched Cabernets are twinkling with winter charm, from Jumping Jack Christmas to Reindeer Magic and Holiday Christmas. Gift Sets are available if you’re looking for something special for your loved ones.

We’re excited to raise our glasses filled with Flora Springs at NVFF16, where they will pour for our Patron Circle Members and celebrities alike at the Celebrity Tribute Dinner this Thursday, hosting a Vintner Circle Dinner at their lovely estate on Friday and pouring the Award Ceremony and Festival Gala, the most glamorous party of the year. We’re looking forward to uncorking bottles of Flora Springs and making many festival memories.

The wine industry: It’s part farming, part chemistry, part branding, and entirely art. Producing and selling wine is a process we think we know, but beyond the glass lies the real story of a winery and its winemakers.  The Napa Valley Film Festival team is proud to share the inspirational behind-the-vines stories we’ve had the pleasure of learning from our Vintner Circle members with you.
