Sixteen year-old Sebastian (Asa Butterfield) has spent most of his life living with his Nana (Ellen Burstyn) in their geodesic dome and tourist attraction. She home schools him within their secluded residence, focusing his studies on the teachings of renowned futurist Buckminster Fuller in hopes that one day Sebastian will carry on Fuller’s dogmas and change the world. When a sudden stroke debilitates Nana, Sebastian begins sneaking around with Jared (Alex Wolff), a punk-obsessed teenager who has had a heart transplant and wants to start a band. With his Nana’s aspirations for him, his first real friendship, and a church talent show at stake, Sebastian must decide if he wants to become the next Buckminster Fuller, the next Sid Vicious, or something else entirely.
